JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (May 21, 2015) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program is excited to announce that three youth members will be competing in public presentation skills at the New York State Fair this year.

Five Chautauqua County youth advanced from the Western District level to participate in the state 4-H public speaking competition held May 16, 2015 at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.

Members included Rachel McCarthy who earned second place Senior Horse Public Speaking talking about equine assisted psycho-therapy, Gracie Morrison who got fourth place in Senior Horse Presentations speaking about the photography of horses, Braden Lesch who earned third place Illustrated Talk discussing animal intelligence, and Andrea Swiderski and Aubin Barber who did not place but highly represented Chautauqua County. Rachel, Gracie and Braden are all eligible to compete on stage at the State Fair this August 27 through September 7 in Syracuse, NY.

Members have worked on public speaking skills throughout the year, first presenting to their local clubs, then at the Chautauqua County 4-H Public Presentation Day in March. Over 100 youth, ages 5 to 19, took part in the county-level competition. Fifteen youth went to regional competitions. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County would like to congratulate all 4-H members who participated in the public speaking contests throughout the year.
