2019 Pig Patrol Participants after the 2nd Annual show at the Chautauqua County Fair

DUNKIRK, NEW YORK (July 26, 2019) -- On Sunday, July 14th, the 2nd Annual Pig Patrol was held at the Chautauqua County Fair’s Open class Hog Show. The idea originally developed by our local law enforcement representatives to encourage a fun experience with the community.

Organized by the 4-H Teen Ambassadors, and Elizabeth Comstock as Emcee, with support from the 4-H Hog Committee, the following officers entertained the crowd showing the Pigs: Officer Jim Curtis-Town of Ellicott, David Root-Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Nate Root-Cattaraugus County Detective Sargent, Jim Quattrone-Chautauqua County Sheriff, Chad Hall-NYS DOC, Deputy Tim Riley-Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Sargent Chris Howlett-Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Captain Rich Telford-Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Correction Officer Sashene Barger-Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department, Correction Officer Nicole Kretz Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department and returning 2018 Winner of the Pig Patrol – Detective Dave Morton of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department.

4-H Hog Project Members who shared their hogs to be shown and assisted each officer were: Rachael Harper, Kamryn Harper, Tessa Warner, Aydon Heim, Emma Lindsey, Jared Dorman, Hannah Schauman, Jaidyn Newhouse, and Kylie Keefe, and open-class exhibitor Amber Livermore. Special support was provided by Dawn Comstock of the Hog Committee and Nancy Johnson, Teen Ambassador advisor. Bryanna Warner, a current 4-H member, judged the show.

Winner of the 2019 Pig Patrol who received bragging rights and their name on the Pig Patrol Plaque was Detective Sargent Nate Root with assistance from 4-H’er Rachael Harper and her hog. Each officer and 4-H member also received a Pig Patrol T-shirt produced by Top Shop Screen Printing & Graphics in Lakewood.

Several area sponsors funded the T shirts and proceeds were donated to the local Police Benevolent Association, Teen Ambassadors fund and the Hog Project Memorial Scholarship. Sponsors included: Cummins, Jamestown Vietnam Veterans Association, Umbarger Show Feeds, James W.
