DUNKIRK, NY (June 30, 2018)
Chautauqua County’s 4-H Poultry Program includes a Market Class for the youth to enter and learn about and show their skill at raising Market Poultry. The 4-H Market Poultry Show was held on June 30, 2018 at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds. Art Lundren from Ashville was the judge for the day.. Each member may raise as many meat birds as they wish, can show two pens of two birds.By show time, the birds are seven to eight weeks old. Youth also have the opportunity to participate in the Market Animal Sale at the Fair At the Market Sale they sell one pen of two birds that have already been judged as the best, and are already processed by the sale.
This year’s project had 15 participants, and top ranking poultry awards were:
Grand Champion Pair of Market Chickens – Kamryn Harper
Reserve Champion Pair of Market Chickens – Kelsie Jackson
Highly Commended Pair of Market Chickens – Rachael Harper
Commended Pair of Market Chickens – Kayla Schauman
