4-H Member Dayne Jantzi Participates in New York State Dairy Quiz Bowl

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (May 3, 2019) - Congratulations to Dayne Jantzi, 3rd year Chautauqua County 4-H dairy member on his outstanding accomplishments at the recent New York State Dairy Bowl Contest. Dayne and his team members represented the Western District at the junior level of the New York State 4-H Dairy Bowl competition held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.

The junior team included the top 4 placing individuals from the Western District Dairy Bowl competition held at Pioneer Middle School earlier in March. Team members included Nathan Foss, Madeline Gabel, Lilah Stroud, and Dayne Jantzi of Clymer. Their junior team placed 3rd overall, with 2 individuals placing in the top 10, Dayne Jantzi 5th and Lilah Stroud 10th. A total of 20 youth participated in the junior competition.

Dairy Bowl is a quiz bowl contest where the youth answer questions related to dairy cattle and the dairy industry, and are recognized on their placings as individuals and as teams. The primary objective of the 4-H Dairy Bowl contest is to provide an opportunity for 4-H youth to demonstrate their knowledge of dairy related subject matter in a competitive setting where attitudes of friendliness and fairness prevail. Dairy Bowl is an educational experience for both participants and spectators.

Dayne Jantzi shared that “4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl is a great opportunity. You get to meet other kids who have things in common with you. It was so much fun to compete with them!”

The 4-H Youth Development Program is an activity for the entire Jantzi family from Clymer, NY. Mary Jantzi, Dayne’s mother, helps coach the Chautauqua County 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl youth, and serves as a volunteer on the 4-H Program Committee. Brian Jantzi, Dayne’s father, also serves as a volunteer on the 4-H Dairy Advisory Committee, helping guide local 4-H dairy project activities. Their eldest daughter Abigail is a past Chautauqua County 4-H member who will soon be graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree from Pennsylvania State University, and will be pursuing her PhD in genetics. Abbey also finds time to help the local 4-H youth learn dairy judging skills. To the Jantzi family, “4-H provides wonderful challenges and teaches skills in a variety of areas. It offers so many positive learning events that kids will carry with them their whole lives. Many volunteers give a great deal of time to ensure success of these valuable programs, and we are very grateful for them.”
