4-H Snack Bar Receives Freezer Donation

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (August 5, 2019) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program was the lucky recipient of a large donation recently. Vince DeJoy donated a large freezer from Jimmy’s Family Restaurant, formerly known as Friendly’s Restaurant, in July.

This donation will be used at the 4-H Snack Bar on the grounds of the Chautauqua County Fair. The Snack Bar is known for their delicious, “Fair Famous” milk shakes. Unbeknownst to DeJoy, a freezer currently used to store ice cream near the milkshake station wasn’t functioning properly and staff were looking to purchase a new machine. Thanks to DeJoy’s donation the 4-H Program will not have to purchase a new freezer.

The 4-H Snack Bar is the second largest fundraiser for 4-H and directly funds programming for 300 youth in the County. The Snack Bar is run by 4-H volunteers and staffed by 4-H youth and families. The 4-H Snack Bar provides delicious, low-cost meals to families throughout the fair week.

Marie Warner, current 4-H Snack Bar Manager, was on hand to accept the generous donation. The Covert family donated their time and equipment to load the freezer and store it until it could be permanently moved into the Snack Bar in Dunkirk.

When asked why he chose 4-H for this donation Mr. DeJoy said that his daughter, Danielle DeJoy Moss, has been involved with the program as a youth and now as an adult volunteer for many years and he wanted to continue to support the organization.

Chautauqua County 4-H is very thankful for the support of Mr. DeJoy!
