Beef & Dairy Cattle Producers' Informational Program

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (January 31, 2019) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Agriculture program is pleased to announce the upcoming informational program and Annual Meeting of the New York Beef Producer’s Association Region 2 for Cattaraugus and Chautauqua Counties, and Chautauqua County Beef Producer’s Association. This will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at the Falcons Nest Banquet Hall, 2001 E. Main Street Ext, Falconer, NY with the Social hour at 6:00 pm and Dinner at 7:00 pm. Anyone with an interest in the beef or dairy industry is welcome to attend this informational program.

The information presented will provide Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) re-certification credits. The Beef Quality Assurance program provides producers an opportunity to learn science based management information to enhance carcass quality, safety and improve animal care to produce quality, safe meat for themselves and consumers.

The following guest speakers will provide practical and useful information for participants:

  • Dave Wilson, DVM, retired large animal veterinarian from Canandaigua, NY
  • “The Immune System in Cattle and How Vaccines Work”
  • Jason Engel, Shamel Milling, East Concord, NY
  • “Testing our Hay and Forages – Understanding the Test Results”

    Each farm will receive one complimentary forage analysis (additional samples can be analyzed at cost). Please bring a representative sample in a labeled, sealed quart bag.

  • Representatives of the New York Beef Industry Council will share current issues and activities for our state’s beef producers
  • Rich Brown, Equity Angus, Port Byron, NY, serves as NYS’s representative on the National Cattlemen’s Board will provide an update on national beef issues.
  • Dinner is available for $25 per adult and $15 per youth, with reservations required by February 5th by contacting Ted Card, at 716-664-3339 or lvg1259@netsync.net. If dinner is not preferred, individuals may attend the educational program at no charge (speakers will begin at approximately 7:45 pm).

    This educational program is organized by the Chautauqua County Beef Cattle Producer’s Association, with support from the New Beef Producer’s Association, New York Beef Council and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County.
