Dairy Farmers Invited to Learn About Dairy Revenue Protection Program

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (February 21, 2019) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Agriculture program is pleased to announce the upcoming informational program on the Dairy Revenue Protection Program (Dairy-RP), a new federal insurance tool, with a quarterly payout to dairy farms when milk revenue falls below their insured revenue level. This program will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 12:00 Noon at the Falcons Nest Banquet Hall, 2001 E. Main Street Ext., Falconer, NY, and a complimentary lunch provided. Lunch reservations are required by Monday, February 25th by contacting Lisa Kempisty, Cornell Cooperative Extension Dairy Educator, at 716-664-9502 Ext 203.

This informational program is being co-sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County and Chautauqua County Farm Bureau, with support from Crop Growers LLP and The Evans Agency, LLC.

The program will include an explanation of the Dairy Revenue Protection (Dairy-RP) which provides protection against an unexpected decline in revenue (yield and/or price) from milk sales relative to a guaranteed coverage level on the milk produced from dairy cows. Dairy producers choose how much milk to enroll and when. This Dairy-RP insurance must be purchased through an authorized crop insurance agent. A list of authorized crop insurance agents is available from the USDA Service Center in Jamestown and on the RMA (Risk Management Agency) website.

A representative from Crop Growers will present details on the Dairy-RP insurance now available to dairy farms, how Dairy-RP fits into a farm’s overall risk management strategy, provide an example to show the revenue protection potential and how to purchase coverage to insure against unexpected declines in revenue from milk sales.

Dairy farm owners, family members, employees and agribusiness representatives are welcome to attend to learn more information on this Dairy Risk Management program.

The Agriculture Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua) in line with the County’s 20/20 Comprehensive Plan. CCE-Chautauqua is a community based educational organization, affiliated with Cornell University, Chautauqua County Government, the NYS SUNY system, and the federal government through the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
