Evening in the Garden 8/17/16

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (August 11, 2016) -- Continuing their monthly meetings for the public, the Master Gardeners of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County will present their August Evening in the Garden on August 17th at 6:00 pm. The Demonstration Garden is located at the Frank Bratt Ag Center, 3542 Turner Road in Jamestown.

For August the main topic will be harvesting vegetables from your home garden, including potatoes grown under leaves, celery, peppers, eggplant and cucumbers. All these vegetables have done well this summer in the demonstration garden.

Also on the agenda will be "fun" with weeds. Master Gardeners will identify common weeds for this area of WNY, and will also discuss the characteristics, root systems and removal techniques for these weeds. Finally there will be a discussion of the importance of garden cleanup. Some simple sample tastings will also be presented. If you are having any problems with tomatoes or other vegetables, bring a photo or sample and we will try to diagnose the problem.

Master Gardeners will be present to answer your gardening questions and are eager to hear everyone's gardening ideas. In case of rain, the Evening in the Garden will be held inside the Ag Center.

Chautauqua County Master Gardeners also "man" a Help Desk/Help Line at the Ag Center every Wednesday from noon to 2:00 pm. You can send us an e-mail at ccemgcc@gmail.com, call the help desk at 716-664-9502 ext. 224, or drop in between 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm any Wednesday. Garden bugs, weeds, healthy plants - if you can't bring the specimen try to take some pictures if possible.
