Networking Opportunity to Support Local Food Supply Chains

-by Katelyn Walley-Stoll, Farm Business Management Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (November 17, 2017) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Agriculture Program is partnering with the NY Sustainable Agriculture Working Group to encourage more institutional buying in our area. On November 21st, 2017 at the Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, in Jamestown, NY from 6pm to 8pm, Farmers and Agricultural Producers are invited to attend the “Farmer Buyer Mixer” along with any value-added food processors, chefs, and other institutional buyers.

This free event is open to vegetable and fruit farmers, meat producers, dairy and cheese makers, value-added food processors, chefs, restaurant owners, school food program directors, cafeteria staff, institutional food service directors, business managers, local food aggregators and distributors, and other members of our regional food system. The evening will include light refreshments, presentations, introduction to resources, a conversation about next steps, and lots of time for networking.

This event is part of a larger effort to increase the amount of local foods that are used in our community’s institutions. Local food buying increases farm profits, improves community health, and spurs economic development thanks to the multiplier effect!

RSVP’s are appreciated by contact Kimberly LaMendola at 716-945-5301 ext. 2211 or klamendola@SouthernTierWest.org. This event will also be held on December 4th, 2017 at the Grange Hall in Cuba, NY (116 East Main Street). Participants are invited to attend one or both events.

This event is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua) in line with the County’s 20/20 Comprehensive Plan. CCE-Chautauqua is a community based educational organization, affiliated with Cornell University, Chautauqua County Government, the NYS SUNY system, and the federal government through the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
