4-H Teen Ambassadors Hold Annual Club Officer Training

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (November 3, 2017) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program held a training for club officers. The new 4-H year began October 1st. With the new year comes a new slate of officers in 21 clubs across the county. 4-H club officers have a very important role in leading club business meetings and play a part in planning activities in their club for the upcoming 4-H year. Club leaders Nancy Johnson and Heather Lesch planned the event with the teen leadership group the 4-H Teen Ambassadors.

Twenty seven 4-H youth club officers met on Wednesday, November 1st to learn about Parliamentary Procedure, Roberts Rules of Order, how to run a meeting, and specific duties of officers. The Canadaway Club and the Stockton Panthers won a special prize for having all their club officers in attendance.

Fun was had in the “Order of a Meeting Game”, with prizes for the winning team. Then youth learned how to “make a motion” and members learned specific details that will help in every club meeting. Chautauqua County 4-H Teen Ambassadors Emily Brown, Elizabeth Comstock, Rachael Harper and Tessa Warner assisted throughout the evening. They lead an activity on teaching the duties of specific officer’s responsibilities. This hands-on approach was very helpful! Several resources were provided to all in attendance.

The evening concluded with a rambunctious round of Parliamentary Procedure Jeopardy led by Mrs. Heather Lesch who is an award winning expert in this area. The winning team won free milkshakes at the 2018 Chautauqua County Fair!

Thank you to all the parents and leaders who supported this event in 2017.
