Learn in the Garden

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (June 9, 2021) – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Mas-ter Gardener Volunteer Program is excited to announce the return of the Evening in the Garden edu-cational programming. The Master Gardeners are inviting you to learn with them in the new Master Gardener Volunteer Demonstration Garden, now located at the Jamestown Campus of Jamestown Community College. Evening in the Garden is an evening of hands-on learning, with an opportunity to ask questions on a noteworthy garden topics.

The Master Gardener demonstration garden is where techniques proven by the Cornell Cooperative Extension and the School of Cornell University Life Sciences and Agriculture are taught. Master Gar-dener Volunteers invite you to learn about many of these cultivation and time saving processes that make for a more successful home and/or community garden.

The demonstration gardens co-chair, Wickie Stapleton announced the first session will commence on June 16, 2021, at 6:00 PM, the topic of the evening will be about growing tomatoes and recognizing the most common problems and diseases that affect them. Additional sessions will be held on July 21, 2021, at 6:00 PM and will cover companion plantings and irrigation, and on August 18th at 6:00 PM vol-unteers will teach how to grow garlic and preparing the garden for fall. These sessions are open to the general public. All participants are asked to follow the County Health department COVID-19 guidelines during the time of the sessions.

The demonstration garden has moved to the JCC-Community Gardens located by the Physical Educa-tion Building on Curtis Street, right behind the tennis courts. Parking is located nearby right off Curtis Street.

The Master Gardener Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
