New Master Gardeners Complete Core Training

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (October 12, 2016) Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County announces the completion of the core training for 24 new Master Gardeners. The training was held at the SUNY Fredonia campus through the month of September. The training was offered under a new accelerated program covering the essentials of gardening including; Botany, Woody plants, Soil and Fertilization, Composting, Perennials, Annuals, Herbs, Vegetable Gardening, Water quality, Nuisance wildlife, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Upon completing the core training the participants were given a final exam and now will complete 50 hours of volunteer gardening activities to become Master Gardeners.

The following students completed their required training for the Master Gardener program; Brian Achterberg, Carole Baldwin, Susanne Bloom, Cynthia Carlson, Faith Carlson, Irene Culpepper, Eileen Dunn, Connie Griffith, Grace Hilliker, Natalie Larson, Trisha Lehnen, Dani McMay, Peter Miller, Rosemary Nadeau, Patricia Patterson, Christine Pinkoski, Sharon Rinehart, Kathleen Rooney, Lee Ann Russell, Carol Samuelson, Sharon Stapleton, Nicholas Stupiansky (transfer from PA), Sandra Stupiansky (transfer from PA), and Cheryl Vaillancourt

CCE Master Gardeners are involved in a variety of educational and community welfare projects. Projects CCE-Master Gardeners have been involved in the past include, answering horticulture questions via our help line. PH testing, working with youth gardening programs, presenting garden topics to clubs, libraries and other organizations, demonstrate at workshops, Building, maintaining community gardens, and writing horticultural articles and bulletins.

The Master Gardener Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua).
