The Enjoyment Continues

DUNKIRK, NY (July 19, 2018) The 2018 Chautauqua County Fair has been a maze of excitement as Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H members prepare, care for, and show their animals. The weather on Wednesday was no exception to the excitement, with a cool breeze and the smell of sugary sweets and animals. Show results for 4-H exhibitors also continues the excitement. 4-H Goat Program participants performed in the Small Animal Arena Wednesday in the Dairy Goat and Meat Goat Shows. Youth were judged by Pete Snyder who evaluated youth in Showmanship Classes based on how well each youth and goat performed together.Youth in the Goat Show also participated in Dairy and Market Classes in which animals were judged on respective breed standards and in Market Classes on finish and projected carcass quality. Market Goat participants sold their animals at the 4-H Meat Animal Sale on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 12:00pm

Goat Senior Showmanship

Goat Novice Showmanship

2nd – Kendall Eckman

Grand Champion Showman is Julia Anderson

Master Showman is Anna Talbot

Cloverbuds are 4-H members under 9 years old that participate in non-competitive animal activities. This year, five youth participated in the 4-H Goat Cloverbud Program and exhibited their goats in the 4-H Goat Show. Each Cloverbud member received a blue ribbon, trophy and a donated gift.

Cloverbud participants were: Anna Carlberg, Clara Carlberg, Austin Eckman, Grady Huntington, and Ethan Weilacher.

4-H Goat participants showed their animals in breeding classes in which the animals were evaluated on structure, balance, breed standards and body composition. In the A.O.P. the Best Junior Doe in Show All Other Breeds is Peyton Weilacher with “Ginger.” Best Senior Doe in Show went to Makayla LaRoy with “Gracie.”

Best Doe in Show also went to Makayla LaRoy with “Gracie.” Genevieve Smith received top honors for the Best Dam and Daughter with “Shadow” and “Zenith.” The Best Udder Award went to Genevieve Smith’s goat “Zenith”. Best 3 females went to Genevieve Smith.

In the Meat Goat Breeding Class, Robbie Clutter’s goat “Sizzle” received Best Junior Doe. Makayla LaRoy received Champion Breeding Meat Goat with “Echo.”

Steven Overend received Champion Market Goat.Allen Root received Reserve Champion Market Goat.

In the Pygmy Goat Division, Gracie Morrison received Grand with “Nissa” and she also received Reserve Champion Pygmy with “Material Girl.”

Awards in the Fiber Goat division, Mackenzy Graziano received Grand and Samuel Comstock received the Reserve prize.

Supreme Champion of Show went to Steven Overend with his Market Goat, Chester.

Congratulations to all the participants for their hard work all year.
