DUNKIRK, NY (June 26, 2019) – Chautauqua County 4-H Youth Development Program will put their best on display at the 135th annual Chautauqua County Fair in Dunkirk July 15th-21st. Mark your calendars—you won’t want to miss this staple summertime event!

In the 4-H Youth Building 15 area 4-H Clubs will have nearly 1,000 handcrafted projects on display in booths decorated with the theme “4-H is in My Heart.” In the 4-H Building you’ll also find dog agility demonstrations, youth presentations, crafts for fairgoers, and more! CCE Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) will host live cooking classes in the 4-H Building throughout the week.

The 4-H Snack Bar will be open from 7:00am-8:00pm daily serving delicious and affordable home cooked meals and of course their fair famous milkshakes. The Snack Bar is staffed by 4-Hers, parents, and 4-H volunteers. The Snack Bar is a major fundraiser for Chautauqua County 4-H which now depends on its’ own fundraising to continue programming since major County support was lost in 2012.

A record number of animal entries will be on display this year. 4-H youth have exhibits in the goat, poultry, rabbit, beef, dairy, hog, sheep, and horse barns. The dog project will offer daily demonstrations in the 4-H Youth Building and have a fun show on Saturday, July 20th in the newly constructed Small Animal Arena. There will be shows daily in the Warren K. Brown Arena as well as the Small Animal Arena. 4-H horses move in Tuesday, July 16th and horse shows continue daily through Sunday, July 21st.

The 54th annual 4-H Meat Animal Sale will take place at 12:00pm sharp in the Warren K. Brown Show arena on Friday, July 19th. This year 70 hogs, 15 meat goats, 31 pairs of market poultry, 35 lambs and 20 steers are available at the sale. Arrive early to get a look at the animals available for sale, meet the 4-Her that raised the animal, and get a good seat. See you at the Fair!

The Chautauqua County 4-H Youth Development Program connects youth to hands-on learning opportunities that help them grow into competent, caring, contributing members of society. By completing various projects youth learn patience, teamwork, and other valuable life skills. Feel free to ask youth about their projects as they are always willing to tell you more about what they have been working on all year.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a community based educational organization, affiliated with Cornell University, Chautauqua County Government, the NYS SUNY system, and the federal government through the United States Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
