Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County invites the community to enjoy a warm summer evening filled with conversation about all things gardening. CCE-Chautauqua Master Gardener Volunteers will host their popular “Evening in the Garden” on Wednesday, August 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Curtis Street Community Garden in Jamestown.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served and guests are asked to bring their own chairs. The garden is located on Curtis Street in Jamestown, near JCC’s tennis courts. No RSVP is needed, but questions or requests for additional information or accommodations can be made by calling Katelyn Walley-Stoll, Ag Team Leader, at 716-664-9502 ext. 202 or emailing kaw249@cornell.edu.
Leading the event will be CCE-Chautauqua Master Gardener Volunteers, Dinah Hovey and Laura Marsala. They will share tips on preparing your garden for the winter season, including soil preparation and fertilizing, tool care, basic pruning, and the use of a cold frame to extend the season. They will also share guidance for utilizing cover crops and no-till methods to improve soil quality and drought resistance while decreasing weed pressure.
Evening in the Garden is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua).
