JAMESTOWN, NY (July 15, 2025) - -Monday evening’s 4-H activities provided entertainment in the Warren K. Brown Show arena. In the livestock arena, squeals of excitement were heard from the hogs and youth, and a few of the spectators as they participated in Swine Market, Breeding and Showmanship Classes. Tonya Fender of Ohio judged this year’s event. She judged the market and breeding classes on breed standards, finish and quality, and the showmanship classes on handling and presentation.
The Showmanship classes consisted of four divisions and 60 youth. The Senior Showman contest, being the most experienced showman, ended with Parker Schauman in first and Cayla Damcott in second. The First Year Senior Showman was Grady Obert. Among the First Year Junior Showmanship class, Gary Case took first, and Owen Carlberg took second. Earning the Division Champion and Reserve Titles also earned these participants entrance in the Champion Showman class. Parker Schauman earned the Grand Champion Showman title for 2025. Reserve Grand Champion went to Olivia Kwilos. Third Overall Showman award went to Carla Damcott. Garrett Lesch placed fourth Overall Showman, and Grayson Coil won the fifth Overall Showman award.
Following the showmanship class was the market hog show. The market classes are divided into weight classes. The first weight class was the 220 - 229-pound class which was won by Garrett Lesch and followed by Drake DeLand in second. Next was the 230–239-pound class in first was Grayson Coil and in second was Paige Winton. After that was the 240–249-pound class which was Parker Schauman in first and Logan Ellsworth in second. The 250–259-pound class followed with Jaidyn Newhouse in first and Abbie Boardman took second. In the weight range of 260-269 pounds, the winners were Olivia Kwilos who took first place and in second was Parker Schauman. In the 270-279 weight class, Greyson Coil took first place, and Cayla Damcott took second place. The 280-289 class results where first place went to Aubree Adams, and second place went to Garrett Lesch. The last class was the heaviest hogs with a weight range of 290– 300 pounds. Grady Obert took first place and in second was Braelynn Mistretta.
Champion and Reserve Market Hogs from each weight class compete for the Grand Champion Market Hog title. Olivia Kwilos won this honor, and Parker Schauman received the Reserve Grand Champion award. Third Overall Hog award, went to Parker Schauman and Fourth Place award went to Greyson Coil, with Fifth Place going to Garrett Lesch.
4-H Market Hog winners earned more than ribbons and trophies, these placings help 4-H members earn a sale position in the Meat Animal Sale scheduled for Friday, July 18, 2025, at 12 noon. Grand and Reserve market animals earn the first and second slots in the Hog portion of the Meat Animal Sale. Other 4-H members that have multiple animals in the 4-H Market Hog Project are required to sell only their top placed animal. 4-H Hog Project members work many hours preparing their animals for show and sale.
