JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (July 22, 2024) – The annual Chautauqua County 4-H Pack show was held Thursday evening at the County Fair. And as usual, the competition, comradery and fun were as the youth lead their goats through a challenging obstacle course. Each year, 4-H volunteers Keith and Kim LaRoy design both the pack and harness courses for the youth.
Youth in the harness project must drive their animal through obstacles, back up their animals, and overall maintain control of the animal during the show. This year’s Grand Champion Harness Goat was shown by Brayden Tarnowski.
The pack goat course is equally challenging. Youth must lead their animals through real-life obstacles they may come across on the trial including water, inclines and bridges. Mariah LaRoy showed the Grand Champion Pack Goat, Mackenzy Graziano showed the Reserve Champion Pack Goat, and Third Place over all went to Emelia Catanese.
The Pack String competition was won by Abigail Carlberg.
Yougth ages 5-8 are Cloverbuds and can participate in select 4-H events. Cloverbuds in the Goat projects who participated in the pack show were Eleanor Carlberg, Bryan Catanese, Brayden Tarnowski, Wyatt Winton, Remi Lindsey, Samantha Overend, Archer Taylor, and Holden Taylor.
Congratulations to all youth who participated in the 4-H Pack and Harness Show!
