JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (December 8, 2025) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Program recently held a Presentation Day Training designed to help youth develop essential communication skills in preparation for the upcoming Presentation Day competition on Saturday, January 24, 2026. This interactive workshop focused on building confidence, clarity, and presence when speaking in front of others.
During the training, participants explored how to organize and present ideas effectively, speak with confidence, and connect with an audience. They learned about different types of presentations and their components, how to use visual aids to enhance delivery, and strategies for brainstorming and structuring presentations. The session also included practical tips on attire, appearance, and voice projection to help youth present themselves professionally.
The training was led by dedicated 4-H volunteers Heather Lesch, Sara Couchman, and Charlotte Couchman, whose expertise and enthusiasm made the event a success. Charlotte, a former Chautauqua County 4-H member, represented the county at the 2024 Eastern Nationals 4-H Horse Round-Up in Louisville, Kentucky, where she earned the title of National Champion in the Public Speaking Horse Communications contest. Today, Charlotte continues to share her experience and passion for public speaking as a 4-H volunteer.
Chautauqua County 4-H recognizes the extraordinary value of its volunteers. Their hard work and commitment ensure that youth have opportunities to develop lifelong skills—not only in public speaking, but also in leadership, critical thinking, organization, and teamwork. These skills prepare young people to succeed in school, careers, and community life. Heather, Sara, Charlotte, and all of our volunteers play an essential role in making Chautauqua County 4-H a success.
The 4-H Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The association is part of the national cooperative extension system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments. As New York’s land grant university Cornell administers the system in this state. Each Cornell Cooperative Extension association is an independent employer that is governed by an elected Board of Directors with general oversight from Cornell. All associations work to meet the needs of the counties in which they are located as well as state and national goals.
