4-Hers Go “Hog Wild” at Annual Show

DUNKIRK, NY (July 17, 2024) - -Chautauqua County 4-H Youth have been super excited to be back at the Chautauqua County Fair and glad to be open to the public! Squeals of excitement were heard from the hogs and youth, and a few of the spectators as they participated in Swine Market and Showmanship Classes on Monday, July 15, 2024. Tonya Fender of Lynchburg, Ohio judged the show.

The Showmanship classes consisted of four divisions of 55 youth. Senior Showman, being the most experienced showman, start the show to give younger youth an opportunity to pick up some last-minute pointers. Adam Lesch was named Grand Champion Senior Showman and Lydia Covert was named Reserve Champion Senior Showman. Grand Champion Junior Showman was Parker Schauman and Olivia Kwilos won the title of Reserve Champion Junior Champion.

Earning the Grand Champion title for First Year Senior was Addison Damcott and the Reserve Champion title went to Johnathan Lyon. First Year Junior Grand Champion title was won by Kayla Damcott, Reserve Champion of the First Year Juniors was Ariana Coil. These participants earned entrance in the Champion Showman class.

In the final Showmanship event of the 2024 4-H Hog Project Grand Champion went to Parker Schauman, with Olivia Kwilos earning the title of Reserve Champion Showman. Third place went to Adam Lesch, fourth place to Lydia Covert, fifth place to Landon Ellsworth and sixth place went to Kayla Damcott.

Following the showmanship class was the market hog show. The market classes are divided into weight classes. The first weight class was the 220-229 pound class which was won by Parker Schauman followed by Abbie Boardman in second. Next was the 230-239 pound class and in first place was Cayla Damcott and in second was Drake DeLand. After that was the 240-249 pound class which was Landon Ellsworth in first and Morgan Becker in second. The 250-259 pound class followed with first place going to Hannah Schauman and Olivia Kwilos took second. In the weight range of 260-269 winners were Lydia Covert who took first place and in second was Garrett Lesch. In Class 6 with a weight range of 270-279 pounds winners were Parker Schauman taking first place and second was won by Ariana Coil. Class 7 weight range of 280-290 pounds winners were Ariana Coil and second place was Jaidyn Newhouse.

Champion and Reserve Market Hogs from each weight class competed for the Grand Champion Market Hog title, which went to Parker Schauman for his 270-279 weight class hog. Ariana Coil received the Reserve Grand Champion Market Hog award for her 280-290 pounds class hog.
