All In Favor....

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (November 20, 2023) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H Youth Development Program recently held a training for 4-H club officers. The new 4-H year began October 1st. With the new year comes a new line up of officers in 13 clubs across the county. The 4-H club officers have a very important role in leading club business meetings and play a part in planning activities in their club for the upcoming 4-H year.

Forty-One 4-H youth club officers met on Wednesday, November 8th to learn about Parliamentary Procedure, Roberts Rules of Order, how to run a meeting, and specific duties of officers. Several resources were provided to all in attendance to help them navigate their specific club officer role.

4-H volunteer, Heather Lesch began the evening with a general presentation to all elected youth club officers in attendance. Youth learned by means of hands-on activities to teach parliamentary procedure such as the “Order of Business Game” and “Mix It Up” an activity designed to teach how to have effective group discussions and decision making while making a delicious snack. Breakout groups were then established for more specific training for various officer roles. Heather Lesch provided training specific to President’s and Vice Presidents. 4-H Volunteer Nancy Johnson instructed those holding the position as Secretary, 4-H Volunteers Lindsay Eckman and Shannon Carpenter worked with Treasurer’s and 4-H Volunteer, Jen Eschenbach helped the Club Historians and Reporters learn how to be successful in their rolls.

Chautauqua County 4-H is grateful to all of our volunteers who contributed their time and expertise to help direct our youth to be successful in their respective club officer positions. Thank you to our volunteers as well as parents and leaders who supported this event in 2023!
