Jamestown, NY (February 5, 2024) Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County is pleased to announce the upcoming informational program on mycotoxins, in cooperation with the New York Beef Producers’ Association and Chautauqua County Beef Producers’ Association. This 2024 Region 2 Annual Meeting will feature a local cattle nutritionist and will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Lakewood Fireman’s Training Grounds, 116 Pleasant View Avenue (off Summit Street), in Lakewood, NY.
All interested in learning more about mycotoxins in forages and how to manage them to keep beef and dairy cattle healthy, are welcome to attend. Membership in these beef producer groups Is not required to attend.
The evening will begin at 5:30 pm with a social hour and a buffet dinner at 6:00 pm, featuring beef chuck roast provided by Moon Meadow Farm, LLC, The Card Family, Jamestown, NY. If interested in the buffet dinner, the cost is $30 payable at the door, and RSVPs are required for dinner. If attending only to listen to the speaker, there will be no fee. Following dinner there will be a short business meeting and then our guest speaker will share information regarding mycotoxins and their impact on your cattle operation. The evening’s speaker will be John Winchell, mycotoxin expert from Alltech. John resides in Eden, NY, is a graduate of The Ohio State University and has been a dairy cattle nutritionist for over 25 years. He has focused on forage quality for 20 years and is nationally recognized for his harvest analytics and forage harvest timing. Very comfortable on the farm, John has a reputation for troubleshooting herd and forage challenges. John speaks at many conferences, including throughout North America. He also has many articles published in Progressive Dairyman and Progressive Forage. John’s work with Alltech includes sales and on farm support responsibilities in the NE USA, and he is a member of the Alltech World Mycotoxin Team and the USA Alltech Inoculant Team.
