Chautauqua County L.E.A.F. Jr. Native Wildflower Class

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (April 21, 2025) – Chautauqua County 4-H is offering local youth an opportunity to learn about native wildflowers and create seed creatures to plant native wildflowers. The class is open to all youth grades 3-12. They do not need to be a 4-H member to participate.

This class will be held on May 1st at the Carnahan Center on the JCC Campus at 6:30 pm. Pre-registration is required at https://bit.ly/25LeafJRSpring, by emailing chautauqua4h@cornell.edu, or by calling the Extension Office at 664-9502 Extension 212. The cost for the class is $15 for non-4-H members and $10 for 4-H members.

Youth will leave with a seed creature made of clay containing native wildflower seeds donated by Royal Fern Nursery in Fredonia. Youth can later “plant” the wildflower seeds by soaking their seed creature with water and tossing it into a space they’d like to see wildflowers grow.

The 4-H Youth Development Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The association is part of the national cooperative extension system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments. As New York’s land grant university Cornell administers the system in this state. Each Cornell Cooperative Extension association is an independent employer that is governed by an elected Board of Directors with general oversight from Cornell. All associations work to meet the needs of the counties in which they are located as well as state and national goals.
