JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (September 23, 2024) -- New and experienced dairy and beef cattle producers are welcome to join the in-person BQA training on Saturday, October 5th from 9am – 3pm at Empire Livestock Market, 6732 Pickup Hill Rd, Cherry Creek, NY. The Beef Quality Assurance Training will be presented by Katie Card-Allen, DVM, NY Department of Agriculture and Markets, focusing on best management practice guidelines for beef cattle health, welfare, and production with the goal of producing high quality beef both on the hoof and in the retail case. This program is organized by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County in cooperation with the NY Beef Producers Association-Region 2, NY Beef Council, Empire Livestock Market, Moon Meadow Farms, and Valley View Farms.
This year’s program will also feature guest speakers John Kriese, Beef producer and NY Representative to the Cattleman’s Beef Board, who will share “Together We Are More - The Importance of Building Relationships in the Beef Industry” and Jeff Winton, Founder and Chairman of Rural Minds™, who will share his family’s experiences and useful information on “Rural Mental Health Resilience.”

The BQA training will cover the following topics:History and benefits of BQA training,stress reduction and management through low impact handling,herd health management and biosecurity,identification and recordkeeping, transportation considerations,introduction to VCPRs, veterinary drugs, and veterinary equipment, and chute-side manner and how to properly give injections.While farmers are welcome to participate in this training to learn more about managing their herds, those who successfully complete it will attain their BQA certification.
The cost of this training and on-site catered lunch is $25 per person, payable at the door. If you prefer to “bring your own lunch and beverages,” the cost of the training is $5 per person.
