SNAP-ED, CCE and TCC Health Partner to Install Wellness Trails in Waiting Rooms

Jamestown, NY – [April 3, 2024] – SNAP-Ed NY, Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua have announced a partnership with The Waterfront Foundation’s (TWF) Waterfront Health and Wellness Program with the installation of “wellness trails” in the waiting rooms of all practices under TCC Health. The trails include signs with nutrition and wellness tips and sensory floor stickers with fun activities. They have also incorporated QR codes on the wellness signs for additional online resources and nutrition information related to the program.

“We are excited to partner with SNAP-Ed NY and the three CCE’s to bring these wellness trails to our patients,” said Alicia Ekstrom, Director of TWF’s Health and Wellness program. “We believe that these trails will help to promote healthy habits and make waiting rooms a more enjoyable experience for our patients.”

The wellness trails are designed to be used by patients of all ages. The signs include tips on nutrition, physical activity, stress management, and how to shop for and cook healthy meals when life is tight. The floor stickers feature fun activities that improve health and coordination, like balance challenges, hopscotch, and jumping games.

“We are committed to helping our community members live healthier lives,” said Patty Amidon, MSEd, SNAP-Ed New York Project Manager. “These wellness trails are a great way to promote physical activity and healthy habits in a fun and engaging way.”

The CCE Wellness trails were made possible through a grant from the Office of Temporary Assistance Disability (OTDA). SNAP-Ed NY is to help individuals, families with children, older adults and all those in between learn to save time, save money, and eat healthy. Providing tools, tips, and tricks to make nutritious food choices and choose a physically-active lifestyle.

Wellness trails have been placed at six of the TCC Health locations in Jamestown, Dunkirk, Gowanda, Forestville, Mayville and Jamestown PT/OT locations. The CCE team plans to change out the wellness information and review the existing activities every quarter.
