Stockton Panthers 4-H Club Volunteer to Support Blue Star Mothers

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (December 14, 2022) -- On December 3rd, 2022, the Stockton Panthers 4-H Club helped to pack boxes for the mothers of the people in the military. These mothers are called the Blue Star Mothers. The 2022 Christmas Box Event happened at the Fluvanna Community Church. The boxes were filled with toiletries, candy, soup, hot cocoa, gum, drink flavors, and other goodies. There were hundreds of volunteers from the community who packed 955 boxes. These boxes are Christmas gifts for the soldiers to show them that we appreciate and care about them.

The Stockton Panthers 4-H Club volunteered for this project because the soldiers should know that everyone cares, not just their moms. The Panthers enjoyed this trip because helping out is their middle name. The Blue Star Mothers support veterans, each other, and their children as they serve the country. The Blue Star Mothers organization started during the first World War, and our local Chapter 4 started in 2007. Mrs. Rowley, president of Blue Star Mothers Chapter 4, said “We support our troops and we support another when our children serve the country.” She said the boxes will be sent in the mail to our soldiers in the Navy, Army, Marines, and the Air Force all over the world.

The 4-H Program is one of many programs offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County (CCE-Chautauqua). CCE-Chautauqua is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The association is part of the national cooperative extension system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments. As New York’s land grant university Cornell administers the system in this state. Each Cornell Cooperative Extension association is an independent employer that is governed by an elected Board of Directors with general oversight from Cornell. All associations work to meet the needs of the counties in which they are located as well as state and national goals.
