The Enjoyment Continues with the 4-H Goat Show

JAMESTOWN, NY (July 22, 2024) The 2024 Chautauqua County Fair has been a maze of excitement as Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s 4-H members prepare, care for, and show their animals. Show results for 4-H exhibitors also continues the excitement. 4-H Goat Program participants performed in the Goat Arena Wednesday in the Dairy Goat and Meat Goat Shows.

Youth were judged by John Riley, of Batavia, NY who evaluated youth in Showmanship Classes based on how well each youth and goat performed together. Youth in the Goat Show also participated in Dairy and Market Classes in which animals were judged on respective breed standards and in Market Classes on finish and projected carcass quality. Market Goat participants sold their animals at the 4-H Meat Animal Sale on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Goat Senior Showmanship

Goat Junior Showmanship

  • 1st   Levi Overend

Goat Novice Showmanship

  • 1st  Dustin Bunce
  • 2nd  Ellyie Ball
  • 3rd  Brennan Risley

Champion Showman is Levi Overend, Reserve Grand Champion is Kendall Eckman.

Cloverbuds are 4-H members under 9 years old that participate in non-competitive animal activities. This year, four youth participated in the 4-H Goat Cloverbud Program and exhibited their goats in the 4-H Goat Show. Each Cloverbud member received a variegated ribbon, trophy and a donated gift.

Cloverbud participants were Bryan Catanese, Eleanor Carlberg, Bentley Frank, Samantha Overend, Wyatt Winton, Brayden Tarnowski, Remi Lindsey, Rudiger Pavlock, Stanley Pavlock, Archer Taylor, and Holden Taylor.

4-H Goat participants showed their animals in breeding classes in which the animals were evaluated on structure, balance, breed standards and body composition. In the A.O.P. the Best Junior Doe in Show All Other Breeds is Hunter Bova with “Andrea’s Antony” Best Senior Doe in Show went to Tianna Bova with “Blue Blazer H Becca .”

Tianna Bova received top honors for the Best Dam and Daughter with “Becca” and “Bova’s Bambina.” The Best Udder Award went to Owen Lindsey’s goat “Sugar Mountain Gracelyn Jade.”

In the Dairy class, Tianna Bova won the following: Senior Dairy Doe with “Blue Blazer H Becca;” Best Dairy Doe in Show with “Blue Blazer H Becca”; Dam and Daughter with “Becca and Bova’s Bambina;” Best 3 Females with “Milk Master Luthien’s Key,” “Milk Master Lalaith’s Key” and “Bright Sun Naughty Nadia.”

In the Meat Goat Breeding Class Results were: Junior Doe – Brennan Brisley with “Ginger.” Senior Doe – Paige Winton with “Indian Outlaw.” Best Meat Doe in Show was Brennan Risley with “Ginger.”

Brennan Risley with “Target” received Champion Meat Goat. Kendall Eckman with “Elvis” received Reserve Champion Meat Goat. Third was Bentley Frank with “Thunder.” Fourth was Mackenzy Graziano with “Colby.” Fifth was Tianna Bova with “Chevron.” In the Pygmy Goat Division, Abigail Carlberg received Grand Champion with “Hickory Grove Pua-Ma” and Abigail Carlberg also received Reserve Champion Pygmy with “Rockhaven Ranch Nischevous.” Best Dam and Daughter was also won by Abilgail Carlberg with “Hickory Grove Pua-Ma” and “ Rockhaven Ranch Nischevous.” Best 3 females were Abigail Carlberg’s “Rockhaven Ranch Nischevous, Hickory Grove Pua-Ma, and Hickory Grove Midnight.” Supreme Champion of Show went to Brennan Risley with Market Goat “Target.”
