The Chautauqua County 4-H Beef Program is sponsoring a steer and heifer show again this year at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk, NY. This show is open to all New York State 4-H and FFA members. The show is designed to give young people an opportunity to show their calves prior to county and state fair. All calves will need to present an up to date (dated after April 15, 2021) New York State CVI (Certificate of Veterinary Inspection) in order to participate in the show. Showmanship classes will be broken up by age. Participation in showmanship is mandatory. Exhibitor must use same animal for all showmanship classes. Exhibitor must show his/her own animal for showmanship. Steers and heifers are to have been born on or after January 1, 2020. All steers will be shown by weight. 

Steer entries will be as follows:

Section S: Prospect Steer

Classes will be determined by hip height.

Heifers will be shown by breed. Any heifer that does not have registration papers will be shown as a crossbred. A copy of the registration paper must accompany each heifer entry. A heifer can only be shown in one class. Breed classes for the heifers will be as follows:

Section A: Angus

Section B: Hereford

Section C: Limousin

Section D: Maine Anjou/Mainetainer

Section E: Simmental

Section F: Shorthorn/Shorthorn plus

Section G: AOB (registered)

Section H: Crossbred/commercial

Class 1: Heifers born 1/1/20 through 3/31/20

Class 2: Heifers born on or after 4/1/20

All entry money will be returned 100%. Donations to the prize fund are welcome and can be included along with entry fees. Top awards for the Champion and Reserve Champion Steer and Heifer will depend upon the number of paid entries. Check in for the show will begin at 8:30 AM on show day at the fairgrounds. All animals must be on the grounds and checked in no later than 10:00 AM. The showmanship classes will be first beginning @ 11 AM, followed by heifer classes and then the prospect steer classes.

The entry fee is $20 per entry as long as the entry fee and form are postmarked no later than May 1, 2021. All entries postmarked after May 1 will be at $30 per entry. The show committee encourages you to enter by the deadline, but entries will be accepted up until 10:00 AM on the day of the show. The champion female for this show will qualify for entry into the Empire Supreme Female Show that will take place during the New York State Fair.
