Internal Parasites in Sheep and Goats IPM/FAMACHA(c) Workshop

Internal parasites are one of the biggest health problems affecting goats and sheep in the Northeast.Dewormer resistance is becoming commonplace. As a result, producers need to know how best tomanage parasites. In this workshop, producers will learn the basics of parasite control as well as how todevelop integrated parasite management programs for their farms. We will also provide hands-ontrainingonhowtousetheFAMACHA© Anemia Card (goodonlyforthebarberpoleworm)aspartofa5-point check to determine which animals in your herd or flock most likely need deworming. Thisworkshop will also include hands-on training on doing fecal egg counts. You are welcome to bring arefrigerated fecal sample of 8 to 10 fecal pellets from one sheep or goat at your farm to the workshop.

We are pleased to have guest speakers Dr. tatiana L. Stanton, Cornell Sheep & Goat State Extension

Specialist and Janice Liotta from the Cornell University Dwight Bowman Parasitology Lab lead this hands-on workshop.

The cost of this workshop is $25.00 for the first person from a family/farm(includesoneFAMACHA©card &workshop)plus$10 for each additionalindividual (workshop only) from the samefarm/family .

number of those interested in participating. The workshop fee is payable by cash or check at the

workshop. Class size is limited, so register early. Please bring your own bag lunch and beverage.

Bottled water will be provided.

As we will have some live goats at the workshop,please wearcleanclothesandshoestotheworkshop

andplantochange thempriorto doingyourown farm chores.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County is now located at the Jamestown Community College Campus in Jamestown, NY. Our FAMACHA Workshop will be held in classrooms at the Carnahan Building, located at 241 James Street, at Jamestown Community College campus, Jamestown, NY (GPS address). Look for the red CCE sign near the building entrance. Face coverings are required in all JCC buildings – disposable face coverings will be available.
