4-H Beef Classic Show Held May 11th

DUNKIRK, NEW YORK (May 31, 2019) – Chautauqua County’s 4-H Beef Project sponsored the 9th Annual Beef Classic Show on May 11, 2019 at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk, NY. The Beef Classic Show provides youth an opportunity to show their prospect steer, breeding heifers, and compete in showmanship which is a test of youth’s skill in showing and knowledge of beef cattle.

There was a great turnout of participants from all parts of the state. Becky Snyder from Geneva, NY was the judge for the show. The Grand Champion Steer this year belonged to Gianna Marino and the Reserve Champion Steer award went to Shianne Foss. Champion Showman was Becky Kron and Reserve Champion Showman was Spencer Broughton.

Spencer Broughton also won Champion Heifer with SNRS MS Friendly 20F, a Simmental, and Nathan Reynolds took the Reserve Champion Heifer award with FDSC Miss Fancy, a Maine Anjou heifer. The Champion heifer is eligible for a spot in the NYBPA Supreme Female Show held in August at the New York State Fair.

The Beef Classic Show is a money payout preview show held each year and is open to any enrolled 4-H or FFA participant. This show is affiliated with the New York State Beef Producers Association and is open to participants in the Junior Beef Producers organization.
