Beef Cattle Producers to Meet

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (December 8, 2017) - Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Agriculture Program is pleased to announce the upcoming Beef Cattle Producer meeting for anyone interested in learning about raising and marketing beef cattle. This informational meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Frank Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown, NY.

Many rural property owners in our area raise beef cattle to utilize their land and building resources, or to grow beef for their own consumption and/or to market for added income. In Chautauqua County, beef cattle farms range in size from a few cows to one-hundred or more, with many farms raising 15 cows or fewer. This beef cattle marketing discussion will provide producers with an opportunity to meet others interested in beef cattle production and learn about beef marketing options.

The evening will begin with a short business meeting of the Chautauqua County Beef Producers Association, followed with an informational round table discussion focusing on beef cattle marketing. The featured speaker will be Mike Baker, PhD, Cornell University Beef Cattle Specialist, who will discuss feeder calf sale protocols and pooled feeder sales across New York State. Blaine Winger, BP Cattle Company, will also share information on beef cattle marketing opportunities.
