Cornell Cooperative Extension Offers Vegetable Program

Chautauqua County Vegetable School Scheduled for March 17th

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (March 9, 2016) -- Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County’s Agriculture Program is excited to announce the upcoming Chautauqua County Vegetable School Program to be held on March 17th from 12:45pm to 4:15pm. Cornell Cooperative Extension Cornell Vegetable Program is hosting a Vegetable School in Chautauqua County. This year the meeting will take place on March 17, 2016 and will be held at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Office of Chautauqua County, Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown, NY 14701.

The program this year will include presentations by the six Cornell Vegetable Program (CVP) specialists Darcy Telenko, Robert Hadad, Christy Hoepting, Carol MacNeil, Julie Kikkert and Judson Reid. Research updates will be presented on disease and weed management; high tunnel and season extension; the final ruling of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) – what it means for your farm planning, training, and timelines; the importance of crop rotation, cover crops and reduced tillage to improve soil health; new developments for managing insect pests and diseases in Cole crops, and processing production in NY.

The cost to attend is $15 for CCE Enrollees and $20 for all others. 2.5 DEC credits are available, you must attend the entire meeting for credit (1A, 10, 23). The Cornell Vegetable Program is one of the premier regional agricultural Cornell Cooperative Extension programs in New York, serving a large multi-county region in the Western part of the state.
