Winter Dairy Management Program to be Held

JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (January 31, 2017) – Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County is pleased to offer the 2017 Winter Dairy Management Program for interested dairy farm owners and farm employees. This educational program will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 10:30am to 3:00pm at the Frank Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown, NY.

Maintaining the health of dairy cows is very important to farm managers, with foot health being a priority. The Winter Dairy Management Program provides local access to current research and will focus on hoof health and keeping cows free from lameness. The program will address preventing hoof problems and how to identify lameness issues as quickly as possible.

Cornell University and Agricultural Industry Specialists will present the following:

● Identifying Lameness ASAP. Strategies and Protocols for Consistently Identifying Lameness - Chip Hendrickson, AgroChem Hoof Care Technical Expert

● Economic Impact of Lameness - Lameness Impacts Your Bottom Line in More Ways than Just Involuntary Culling - Neil Andrews, Account Manager, Northeast Zinpro Corporation

● The Impact of Facilities on Lameness - Tim Terry, Regional Farm Strategic Planning Specialist, Cornell Cooperative Extension - Harvest NY Team

● Managing Facilities for Lameness Prevention -

Dr. Rob Lynch DVM, Dairy Herd Health & Management Specialist, Cornell University, PRO-DAIRY

● Humane Culling Decisions and Transportation - Jerry Bertoldo DVM, NWNY Dairy Specialist,

The fee for this workshop which includes the program, lunch and materials will be $20 per person and must be received by February 9th at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Jamestown.
