Having sensible servings

HEALTHY CHILDREN, HEALTHY FAMILIES

This class series is for low-income adults who are raising children aged 3-11. This series can be taught at an agency with a group of adults or as a series of home visits. During this series of 8 hands on, interactive classes, adults will learn to:                                      

                                     Follow the Paths to Success (nutrition education skills)

  • Drinking water and milk instead of sweetened drinks
  • Eating more vegetables and fruits
  • Playing actively
  • Eating fewer high-fat and high sugar foods
  • Limiting TV and computer time
  • Having sensible servings

                                    Learn to use the Keys to Success (parenting skills)

Introduction of the concept of applying parenting skills to help children eat and play in healthy ways 

  • Showing - teach by example
  • Guiding - offer choices within limits
  • Supporting - help children feel good about themselves
  • Shaping - make healthy choice easier
